SODOM - Click to enlarge

Lambasted outside of their native Germany throughout much of their career the legacy of stoic Thrash outfit SODOM has witnessed a 1990s renaissance of appreciation for their brutal almost primitive Metal attack. SODOM, hailing from Gelsenkirchen, debuted as a trio consisting of guitarist Angelripper (a.k.a. Thomas Such), drummer Witchhunter (Christian Dudeck) and vocalist Aggressor (Frank Testegen) with the demo 'Witching Metal' in 1983. The earliest SODOM incarnation, dating to 1982, had featured Bloody Monster (Rainer Focke) on the drums.

In 1984 a second demo, 'Victims Of Death', included the original tracks boosted with the addition of four new songs. The demo began to receive a great deal of positive press, although Aggressor would choose to opt out. He was eventually replaced by Grave Violator (Josef "Peppi" Dominic) and the new line-up debuted for the first time at the 'Black Metal Night' in Frankfurt. After a further show with DESTRUCTION and IRON ANGEL, Steamhammer SPV Records signed the band and would swiftly release SODOM's debut EP entitled 'In The Sign Of Evil

JOAL- JOAL 1989

LINE UP

Joal (vocals), Tommy Newton (guitar / bass), Tommy Hansen (keyboards), Rudi Kaeding (drums)

Female Melodic Rock vocalist Joal (a.k.a. Annette Stangenberg) from Hannover made a career for herself as a session singer appearing on albums by LETTER X and VICTORY, amongst others. She finally got her big break as a solo artist with a WEA recording contract that resulted in two albums in the late 80s and early 90s. She was assisted in the debut recording by FARGO and VICTORY guitarist Tommy Newton and ex-FARGO drummer Rudi Kaeding alongside keyboard playing producer Tommy Hansen. The 1993 album, 'Who's Got The Feeling', sees the inclusion of former ELOY drummer Fritz Randow, NINA HAGEN guitarist Billy Liesegang, NINA HAGEN herself, BALLANTINEZ, S.A.D.O., FAIR WARNING and LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM guitarist Andy Malecek and GAMMA RAY's Kai Hansen. SHADOW KING - SHADOW KING 1991

LINE UP

Lou Gramm (vocals), Vivian Campbell (guitar), Bruce Turgon (bass), Kevin Valentine (drums)

SHADOWKING - Click to enlarge

SHADOWKING was an AOR orientated 'Supergroup' formed by ex-FOREIGNER vocalist LOU GRAMM after meeting former SWEET SAVAGE, DIO and RIVERDOGS guitarist VIVIAN CAMPBELL, being rounded out by Gramm's longtime writing partner BRUCE TURGON on bass and ex-BREATHLESS, DONNIE IRIS AND THE CRUISERS , HARLOW and THE GODZ drummer Kevin Valentine. Amazingly, SHADOWKING only ever played a solitary show, performing at the Astoria Theatre in London as part of the short-lived 'American Dream' series promoted by the now defunct Shades Record store.

In the wake of Vivian Campbell joining DEF LEPPARD, Lou Gramm settled his differences with Mick Jones and rejoined FOREIGNER, taking Bruce Turgon with him. Kevin Valentine briefly worked with CINDERELLA prior to their 'Still Climbing' album, but returned to Los Angeles where he played with and produced a number of local bands (such as SNAKEROCK) before re-emerging in 1997 in a reformation of DONNIE IRIS AND THE CRUISERS

ROB ROCK - GARDEN OF CHAOS 2007

the lovely singer rob rock is back.

Vocalist Rob Rock cut his first solo album in 2000. Rock had made his name with a series of guitar virtuoso themed acts such as Connecticut's VICE, JOSHUA, IMPELLITERRI, M.A.R.S., DRIVER and for German guitar hero AXEL RUDI PELL on his 'Nasty Reputation' outing. Rock had also featured as session vocalist for the 1989 debut from Canadian Christian Rock outfit ANGELICA.

Produced by Roy Z the 'Rage Of Creation' album featured ex-FOREVER and present day WARRIOR bassist Ray Burke, SAHARA and DRIVER drummer Reynold 'Butch' Carlson and a guest appearance on the tracks 'Media Machine' and 'All I Need' from ex-BADLANDS and OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist JAKE E. LEE. The record would hold a further surprise with an adventurous and downright heavy cover version of the ABBA track 'Eagle'. Rock also spent time in 2000 recording with WARRIOR and contributed the same year to EDGUY mainman Tobias Sammet's ambitious AVANTASIA eponymous album project
